End of Season Recap
We had 15 divers participate in Divisionals on July 26th. Two (Rowan and Alex) qualified for All-Stars with a 1st or 2nd place finish divisionals. We learned at the meet that Evee, with her 3rd place/1st alternate finish, would be diving at All-Stars. Alex could not go to All-Stars, so Caleb, as first alternate, went instead. As the week progressed, Wesley and Emma also earned spots in All-Stars.
At All-Stars on August 2nd, our All-Stars divers did so well! Evee started the day in the Freshmen girls, where she placed 17th in her very first All-Stars experience. Emma was our next diver, and she finished 14th in one of the toughest fields of the day. Wesley had an incredible set of dives and a 4th place finish! Caleb also did well in a tough field and after two rain delays, coming in 9th. Rowan had the All-Stars of her life, and WON Senior Girls! Go Row!
Dive Survey
As of right now, we’ve had 7 families fill out the dive survey. I know it's just one more thing to do, but we really do value your feedback and use it to inform our decisions for next year. We’ve made it anonymous so that you’ll feel more comfortable expressing any concerns. I will only know it’s you if you use your diver’s name in the written responses. :) Please fill it out for us!
Winter Dive Opportunities
We’ve had lots of questions about winter dive and what opportunities there are in the area to keep skills up over the school year. Here are a few that we know are available. If you hear of others, please let us know. If you are curious about any of them and would like to hear more, feel free to reach out. I can put you in touch with current Greenbriar families that are actively using or have recently finished each of these.
- Parktakes–If you are looking for a low commitment option, there are dive classes offered through Parktakes. They have beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. If your child has a good handle on a front dive and a back dive, they will start at the intermediate level. These classes are generally small, are 8 weeks long, and are once a week. This is a great way to ease into winter diving! Most of the springboard classes for the fall are on page 38 of the Fall Catalog. Registration begins August 11th.
- Cheryl Meltz–Cheryl offers a Sunday evening, school year option (Sept-May). Cheryl is the head coach at Chantilly High School and coaches the Oakton Dive team over the summer. Her Sunday evening classes often fill up very quickly and there is no guarantee she’ll have space. She will know in a few weeks if she will have openings as she offers her program to Oakton and then her returning families first. She does keep a waitlist. I’ll let you know when I know that she’s opened up for new families.
- Club Dive–There are three main club diving experiences in this area. Dominion Dive is the closest to Greenbriar. Their fall registration is now up and going. Alexandria Dive Club is a little further away and offers a slightly different experience. Their registration is also open. Both are very high quality USA Diving/AAU programs and both are highly recommended. We have divers at both clubs and I’d be happy to coordinate a time for you to chat with parents that have experience with these clubs. There is a 3rd option, The NOVA Meteors, that runs out of George Mason University. It’s a bit less expensive than the other two options. If this is an opportunity you’d like to pursue, please speak with me before reaching out to them.
It's been a pleasure working with you and your children this year, and I'm looking forward to next summer. If you haven't done so already, please fill out that survey!
