GB Dive Meets Start Soon!

Hello Greenbriar Dive Team:

We had a great first week of practice, and the 2nd week is starting off strong with some great weather and awesome dives! Looking ahead, we have our first meets coming up soon! This year we have two scheduled “B”-meets at Greenbriar, on Thursdays, June 13 and July 11; and "A"-meets on Tuesdays beginning June 18. The full meet schedule is posted on the front page of the Greenbriar Dive site

Who should participate in a B-Meet?

New divers, divers that are still working to have all of their required dives, divers that may not feel comfortable with all of their required dives, or divers that want the extra practice or to try out a new dive. Divers should declare in SwimTopia that they are available and would like to attend. Coaches will help make the final call for which divers should attend the meet.

What are Required Dives?

Each age group has a different set of required dives.

  • Freshman (age 10 and under): front dive, back dive, 1 optional dive. Freshmen may do a front or back pencil dive as an optional.
  • Juniors (11-12): front dive, back dive, and 2 optionals
  • Intermediates (13-14): front dive, back dive, and 3 optionals
  • Seniors (15-18): front dive, back dive, inward dive, and 3 optionals

What is required to participate in an A-meet?

All divers competing in an A-meet should have their required dives. Divers competing in A-meets should try to be at Monday or Tuesday practice to sign meet sheets. Divers should declare in SwimTopia that they are available and would like to attend. Coaches will help make the final call for which divers should attend the meet.

NEW this year: Divers participating in A-meets should plan to sit with the team, in the team area, and cheer on their fellow divers when they are not diving. We ask that divers not play in the wings or create disturbances during the other age groups diving times.

Timing and Logistics for A-Meets

Our first A-meet is Tuesday, June 18 at Lee Graham. Since we're visiting another pool, we'll need to be on deck ready for warmups at 4:45 pm and on the boards at 5:00 pm. The meet will begin at 6:00 pm after our warmup ends.

When our Tuesday night meets are at home, divers will need to be on deck for warmups by 3:45 pm, and we have the boards from 4:00-5:00 pm.

At all meets, volunteer judges and table workers should arrive by 5:30 pm for the officials meeting (more on volunteering in the next email.)

Timing and Logistics for B-Meets

We're still working out the timing for the "B" meet on June 13, and will get you more information as soon as we can. Typically, these meets are more relaxed and will have much looser timing. Teams may even share the boards for warmups depending on attendance.

At all meets, volunteer judges and table workers should arrive by 5:30 pm for the officials meeting (more on volunteering in the next email.)

After the Meet...

The Dive Team has a proud tradition of heading to McDonalds in Greenbriar plaza after home meets. Nothing better than a post-meet hot fudge sundae. We hope to see you there!!

Cheers to a good summer dive season!
