B meet and Crackerjack
Hi Everyone,
I hope you are enjoying your 4th of July. I wanted to let you know who the coaches have decided is eligible for the B meet on Thursday. I also want to educate you a little about B meets and Crackerjack.
As I have said multiple times, we have 40 separate stories going on in dive. Everyone is on their own path. Divers nor parents should get hung up on which meets they are being asked to compete. The important thing is that everyone is showing progress and having some fun.
A "B" meet, as some of you will see, will feature beginning divers who aren't ready to dive in "A" meets and some very good divers, who dive in "A" meets, who aren't quite ready to compete for ribbons in an "A" meet. This allows some to compete for the first time this season. It also allows some divers to have a better chance to win a ribbon to reward their hard work and their improvement. Who is picked isn't completely subjective. NVSL provides us scores that if a diver exceeds makes them ineligible to compete in a B meet. Take Matthew Bray. He is ineligible to compete in a B meet or Crackerjack.
I do not want divers thinking a B meet or Crackerjack is a bad thing. It can be a great thing that allows you to get over a hurdle and have more confidence. It can also be a competition that allows you to win, place or show because you have progressed a great deal but still have a little distance to go to catch those scoring the highest.
The rules do change for B meets. Back jump in's are allowed in lieu of back dives, a jump in can be performed for the optional too. There are fewer dives for the older crew. It is very relaxed and built to encourage a diver to have a positive experience. That said, some good divers will be there doing there "hard" dives too.
If you have already signed up for the B meet, great. If you have not and are available Thursday night please make your diver eligible. BTW the dive meet Thursday is now at 6pm with warmups starting at 5:30. The following have been selected for the "B" meet.
