Wally Martin on July 9
Hi All,
I will have the coaches talk to the divers tomorrow but I wanted to point this out to th parents. Next Sunday July 9. The Wally Martin Dive meet is at Oak Marr Recreational Center. This is a special event as it has a 3 meter competition and 1 meter competition is a synchro event only.
3 Meter Competition
The 3 meter event will follow the age groups you have seen each week in our dive competitions (Freshman, Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors). Anyone is welcome to participate but I will caution you. If your diver has no experience on a 3 meter board, I would go slowly and see if this is something they want to do. They will be almost 10 foot above the water. This can be quite intimidating. There are practices times to go to Oak Marr both July 7th 5-8pm and 8th 4-6pm to see if they want to try it.
Another difference is the 3 meter meet is not free. It cost $5 to enter and you must enter through divemeets.com. (I have attached a flyer with greater detail.) That said, anyone with experience on 3 meter should enter. It's one of the few 3 meter competitions in our area. I am happy to answer any questions or discuss anything concerning the 3 meter competition.
1 Meter Synchro Event
The 1 meter Synchro event is free but it does not follow the normal age groups. There are only 12 and under and 13 and up age groups. 12 & under must perform a front and back dive and one optional dives. 13 & up most perform a front and back dive and two optional dives.
I am really hoping we have a great deal of entries for this competition. It's a lot of fun and while scores are kept and winners are awarded, it really is for fun and allows dive to become a true team sport. Greenbriar, who only has the one board, has a very successful history in this event so it shows, our kids can overcome the lack of resources. (Yes, your teammate can be from another pool.) Really consider any two girls or two boys who are friends, they will have a great time being a team.
Please let me know if you wish your athlete to compete and we will get them some practice times and try and match them up with a partner (feel free to create a team by yourself, you don't need permission). The meet does start early on Sunday morning and doesn't finish until after lunch so no worries if that is a non-compete time for your family.
