Highlights from Yesterday's Parent Meeting
June 14th
Hi All,
As you know, we had a quick parents meeting last night. I know it's impossible for everyone's schedule to be available at one particular time. As such, let me provide a summary of the points the coaches covered:
- As we move into two practices a day starting on Monday 6/19 you should know that there is an expectation that everyone attends one practice per day. (They can come practice their dives at other points of the day but we would prefer people receive instruction during only one of the two practices each day to allow the coaches to work with all the divers in a more even fashion.)
- A Survey Monkey will be sent out to see which practice divers are more available to attend. However, if you have a conflict with your regular practice, feel free to attend the other practice.
- Reminder that Freshman and Junior (12 and below) divers need a designated parent (one parent can be designated for 2-4 kids) at any practice the diver attends. We just want a designated parent so the diver/coach knows who to the diver should report to if they aren't feeling the best, need a moment, etc.
- Reminder that the parents/diver must declare themselves eligible each week for the next meet. If their status changes, they need to be proactive and inform the coaches. This will make your lives far easier preparing meet sheets and picking who dives and what age group they dive.
- Tuesday morning practices are for everyone. (Starting next week, we will have meets on Tuesday nights (so no Tuesday evening practice). While we will be concentrating on those diving in the meet that night that doesn't mean someone who is working on a dive shouldn't come to practice. We are a team where everyone should be encouraging each other and be willing to help each other.
- Fun Practices - These take place the morning after a meet. Fun practices will usually include an activity and some free time in the pool to have fun. Fun can also be trying new dives or crazy dives. Fun Practices should be thought of as team building practices.
- Private Lessons - Our coaches are available to teach private lessons. Matthew, being the most experienced diver, will likely provide the most lessons but all three are available. Feel free to approach any coach if your interested in having a private lesson for your diver. Matthew should be sending something out soon concerning his fee for a private lesson.
- Parent Feedback - If you feel the need to provide feedback, please feel free to reach out to Dawn, Amy or myself, one of us is at each practice. We do discourage giving feedback to the coaches directly before or during practices. They need to be preparing for practice or focused on practice to ensure the best instruction and the safety of our divers.
- New Dive Rep Needed for the 2024 season. I will have completed my 5th year as dive rep in 2023. I think after 5 years someone else needs to take on this responsibility. There is a decent amount of work that is required and it goes on in some fashion all year. I say that so there is truth in advertising. I will also say it is highly rewarding to work within your community to help the children of the community learn new skills, create friendships and produce excellence. Greenbriar pool does not have all the resources of the larger pools but these kids have proven that resources are not required to improve and provide excellence results. All that is required is an opportunity and the dedication of volunteers. The community needs people who care and want to work in order to provide opportunities for our kids. I would love if one or two people would step forward in the next week or two who would consider taking on this responsibility in a single or co-Rep fashion next season. I would love to work with you this season to ensure the smoothest of transitions into next year.
That's what we covered so if you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me and I will do my best to answer it or get you to the proper person to answer it.
Thanks,
Joel
