Hi All,

Not only are our divers preparing for the season but so are our volunteers. How do you do that? You attend one of the volunteer clinics offered by the NVSL league. 

This weekend, there will be both a Judges Clinic and a Tableworkers Clinic. If your not familiar, Judges Clinic is sort of self-explanatory. They literally teach you how to properly judge a dive. I would ask our experienced judges to attend the training. As you remember, there are different rules for Summer Dive and High School Dive so if you have been judging High School Dive all winter, now is the time to change mindsets. Those of you with little or no experience, don't worry, we won't throw you into the deep end (literally) we have a number of experience judges. That said, some age out each year as their kids graduate and you will likely enjoy the meets more if you know how a judge determines their score. If you would like to become a Dive Judge, please arrive at the Mantua Pool 9330 Pentland Place, Fairfax, VA 22031 at 10:30 Sunday Morning June 4th.

Tableworkers is not as stressful as being a judge but a bit more difficult to describe. Each meet has a scorers table. The scorers table consists of a announcer, 4 score tabulators (2 from each team), a ribbon writer and a meet secretary (the meet secretary can double with any of the previously mention positions). The Tableworkers Clinic teaches you the flow of the scorers table and the responsibility for each position. If you are new to dive, this is a great place to start. You only need basic adding and multiplying skills and you also get to use a calculator. If both of these opportunities are bit intimidating to you this year, we will also have opportunity to volunteer at the Dolphin Diner when the meets start.
