The 2023 Dive Season starts today
Hi All,
It's finally time to start the season. Weather would appear to be 75 and no chance of rain at the start of practice but the temp will slowly fall all through practice. Bring multiple towels and have your divers tell the coaches if they start to feel too cold.
As you may remember, we require our divers to be swimsafe as they will be in the deep end. If your child has not received their swimsafe certification from the lifeguards, please work with the guards in the best way possible to have them get their certification prior to or right at the beginning of practice. (I believe there is swim team practice directly before dive team practice so it will likely not be possible to earn their swimsafe certification until swim team practice is complete.) Don't stress over this, I am sure we will get it worked out, I will be there to help but the guards are in charge of this process. Safety is our top priority so we really do want this box checked before they start practicing.
I do try and educate our newer dive families to summer dive. Today, we will discuss 4 words. Freshman, Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors. These are the four age groups that divers are divided into. Their age for the season is determined by what age they are on June 1 of the current year. All ages groups have a girls subdivision and boys subdivision
Freshman are ages 10 and below
Juniors are ages 11-12
Intermediates are 13-14
Seniors are 15-through the summer after the diver has graduated from high school (either in the fall, winter or spring)
Just for clarification. If your daughter turns 11 on June 2 of this year. She will be a freshman and considered 10 years old for the entire season.
Hope that helps, I will include other information as we progress through the season but always feel welcomed to email me or approach me at the pool to ask a question.
Thanks,
Joel
