Clinics are coming up
Hi Everyone,
As in all other youth sports, events are built on volunteers. Greenbriar has been fortunate to have some tremendous volunteers. However, all volunteers "age out" at some point. It is important that we keep having new volunteers so the work level stays low for everyone.
Diving is a competition with specific rules and in order for you to volunteer effectively it does require some training. Each meet, requires a Referee, Judges, and Table/Meet workers.
Over the next couple of weeks, as we build up to our first meets, there are a number of clinics that I would request you consider attending.
Referee Clinics are being held Tuesday June 7 @6:30pm at Truro, June 12 @2pm at Chesterbrook
A referee is not a judge, they observe a dive to ensure the rules of the dive are met. They call balks, failed dives or fouls that required a certain points deduction. I will be a referee this year but would dearly love to have a backup. You must attend one of these clinics to be a referee.
Judges Clinics are Sunday June 5th 9:45am at Sideburn Run or Wednesday June 15th @6:30pm at Truro and Wednesday June 22 6:30pm @Camelot. This clinic will demonstrate the different parts of the dive, you will be shown how to score a dive and then do some test judging. If you want to be a judge, don't worry, we don't require you stay the whole meet, you can do half a meet if you want. We will also allow you to ghost judge with one of our more experienced judges until you get comfortable. We must have 2-3 judges each week but would prefer 4-6. You must attend one of these clinics to be a judge.
Our coaches will be attending the Coaches Clinic Saturday June 11 4pm @Camelot
There is a Meet Workers clinic is this Sunday June 5th at 9:45am at Sideburn Run. A meet worker records and calculates the scores. The best parts about being a meet worker is that you get the best seats and you know how the competition is going on a constant basis. You don't even have to be good at math. We provide calculators and an eraser! We need no less than 6-7 meet workers per meet, don't worry that allows you to only work half the meet and have the other part of the meet off. You don't have to go to this training to be a meet worker but it helps a great deal.
Please respond with any questions, we must have the correct amount of volunteers in order to hold meets. If you know nothing about dive, this will make you far more conversant and able to understand and possibly help your young diver.
Thanks so much,
Joel
