Thank you Samson
As many of you know as parents, sometimes the best answer for your family is not always the best answer for you personally but that doesn't mean they shouldn't move forward. I know that many of us at Greenbriar dive feel this way about Samson. We are so excited for the business he has started in Charlottesville and couldn't be more proud of his success. That said, it hurts to see a member of the family move into a different phase where things can't remain the same. Samson has been a part of the Greenbriar Dive Team family since 2009. During his time as a diver for Greenbriar he accomplished so much highlights include:
- 1st Place in NVSL Diving Divisional competition every year between 2009-2016.
- 1st place in NVSL All-Star Meet for Senior Boys category: 2013
- 1st place in NVSL Wally Martin 3-meter for Senior Boys: 2015
- 4-Time NISCA All-American Diver
- Holds both the 6-Dive and 11
-Dive Records at Fairfax High School. 6-Dive Score: 374.60. 11-Dive Score: 542.45
- Placed 3rd in the Virginia 6A State Diving Competition every year between 2013-2015.
- Accepted scholarship to Dive for The University of Virginia in 2016. Recently graduated in 2020 with a B.A. in Music.
As a coach:
- Jr Assistant Coach: 2012
- GB Dive Assistant Coach: 2013-2015
- GB Dive Head Coach: 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021
When Samson joined the Team in 2009, Greenbriar was a Division 8 team. He leaves us having just coached us to the Championship in Division 6 and having us promoted to Division 5. He also coached the largest dive team in Greenbriar history last year with 59 team members. As far as records, at one point (before Matthew) he held 6 Greenbriar Pool Diving Records. Junior-Senior in both 1-meter and 3-meter.
In closing, saying thank you just doesn't seem to be enough. Samson is an amazing mix of high Diver IQ, fun loving friend and fierce competitor. I can promise you as a person who had meetings with him prior to every event for the past two years, no one wanted to win more than Samson but at the sametime, he has spent countless hours with Greenbriar dive team members teaching them a front dive or a back fall-in, while also being more than willing to allow divers to paint his fingernails or do other silly things to keep the nerves calm and their smiles wide. The Greenbriar Dive Family thanks you Samson. You will forever be a part of our DNA and we hope you visit us often!
