Service Opportunities (update) Dec 29 & 30
Happy Holidays to All,
I hope everyone is having an enjoyable and healthy holiday.
I wanted to update you on the Service Activities that the Greenbriar Dive team has participated in and those on the immediate horizon.
First thanks to Kehoe's, Arnz's, Miller's, Bray's, Lawrence's, Martinez's and my family for their participation in Wreath's Across America on Dec. 18. It was a beautiful day for mid-December. The kids honored are fallen heroes well with the placement of several wreaths. I have attached pictures,
The next Service Opportunity is December 29 & 30. We will be joining forces with an organization called FACETS (http://facetscares.org/). This organization helps provide services to the homeless of Fairfax County. On both nights, we will be delivering meals, both warm and cold, at three separate locations in Fairfax. The first stop is the parking lot of the Home Depot at 3201 Old Lee Hwy. The next stop will be the parking lot of the Breezeway Motel. The last stop is across the street from the motel at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. At each stop, we will meet the Facet's van, set up a table and distribute food to the homeless as needed. Typically 6 volunteers is plenty. I know the Lawrence's, Martinez's and possibly the Miller's have said they could assist.
I would like to have as many families participate as possible.
I know many are battling illness at this time so if I could get confirmations from everyone on which day and how many could assist, I would appreciate it. To the extent, we have multiple families wanting to participate, I will contact you to see if we can evenly distribute the help across the two nights. (There will be other opportunities to participate in the future.)
Lastly, for those with young ones, too young to assist (middle school or above). You can make peanut butter sandwiches. You just need a loaf of bread and peanut butter. Make as many sandwiches as the loaf allows. We will leave them with the operators of the Breezeway Motel to distribute as they often have homeless that don't arrive timely for the food distribution.
Thanks for your assistance,
Joel
