EOY Survey Last Call and Winter Dive
Hi Everyone,
EOY Survey
We have had 30 respondents. Assuming one family didn't respond more than once, that means we have around 17 families that have not responded. The responses are anonymous so I can't tell who has responded, save for those who used names in their comments section.
Either way, this is last call for the survey, whatever we have by COB Wednesday is what we will use for purposes of planning next year.
Winter Dive Options
A number of you have responded that you would be in favor of some form of winter dive program. I wanted to start to explain the alternatives.
Top Tier Dive Clubs
First if you are wanting your child or children to have a high level of training that would prepare them not only for summer dive but for higher level diving, I would suggest you reach out to Alexandria Dive Club (ADC) or Dominion Dive Club (DDC). They both offer excellent training. I will say that a Dive Club is different than summer dive. They are there to do a job to improve each diver for competition at a high level. They are not likely where you would want to start if you still have a beginner diver, unless the diver is showing tremendous progress. A number of our more experienced divers have attended these clubs and have shown vast improvements. If you are interested in learning more, I am happy to discuss and to refer you to others have attended either and both of these clubs.
2nd Tier Dive Club
There is another local dive academy call Mason Dive Academy. Some from our team have attended. They are not the same level as ADC or DDC. While my son has not personally attended, some on our team have and the results have been mixed. Once again, I would rather refer you directly to the families who have attended this club for their thoughts. This is likely one alternative for a younger diver.
Individual Operations
Another alternative is Cheryls Metz. She runs a small operation that meets monthly. She has a few spots open and if there is enough interest she says she will open up another practice time for just Greenbriar divers. Cheryl is a very good dive coach and has coached a number of our divers over the years. I think she would be of use to divers of all levels of experience. However, her training is somewhat limited, meeting only once a month on Sunday evenings. The price point is low for 8 sessions starting in September and ending in April. Once again, I am happy to refer you to those who have made use of Cheryl's group in the past. The link is so you can learn more about this group. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdiU37ukw...
Lastly, I know there was discussion of Greenbriar starting it's own winter dive program. While not all the responses are in. I would like to hold that as our last option. Quite frankly, there would be quite a bit of work to start what would amount to a "not for profit" small business. We only have one year of history of having a team large enough to support such an operation and with other alternatives available, I would like to see if these alternatives would handle 90% of the need. I am not saying we will not start a winter dive program, if not this year, maybe in the future but I just want to make sure we exhaust other alternatives before we go that route. There are some other issues, like "B" meets that I would rather concentrate my time on that would help a greater number of our divers.
Once again, please complete the survey, if your family already hasn't. Your voice can't be heard if it is not voiced.
Thanks again,
Joel
