June 17th Mock Meet Volunteers needed!

Hello again,

On Thursday, we will hold a “mock” meet. This meet is for all available divers of all age groups! We will begin promptly at 5:15 when freshman divers will have a quick warm-up. They will then compete their 3 dives exactly like they would in one of our dual meets. You may be worried that your freshman diver (10 and under) doesn’t have all three dives. This does not matter in this meet. We will have them do what they can. We want them to see the process of a dive meet so it is more familiar to them when they dive in a dual meet later this season. Once the freshman are complete, they will be followed by Juniors (11-12) and then Intermediate (13-14) and finally Seniors 15 and above). I can’t stress enough, this is for experience and fun. We want the divers to be serious as they need to understand the process of competing in a dive meet but we won’t be using these scores for anything.

In the same vein, many of you, as parents will get to experience your first dive meet or at least your first dive meet in a couple of years! If you have previously judged a dive meet or have recently taking the judge training, we would like you to judge at least part of the time during the mock meet. This isn’t official, you won’t blow anyone’s Olympic spot. This is to give you some practice time too. Dawn Bray (Asst. Coach’s Matthew’s and Michael’s mom) will coordinate judges.

Likewise, we will need table workers. Whether or not you took the training. We can teach you how to be a table worker. If you could volunteer for one section of the meet and then allow others to volunteer, that would allow us to train the most for the season. Typically, we will have one of our previous assistant coaches (Sarah Tohill) serve as meet secretary but she has a conflict this week. I will step into the role this week. If you can add/subtract and multiply with a calculator, you can do this job!

Last but certainly not least, we may be opening a version of Dolphin Diner. Katherine Green (better know as Asst. Coach Wesley’s mom) is the Diner coordinator and she will be emailing separately about her plans for the diner this year. She does an amazing job coordinating the diner and makes it very easy on all of us. The Diner is an important fundraiser to the team.

Typically, Amy (Board Rep for Swim and Dive Team aka Assistant Coach Virginia’s mom) is our announcer. She may have a partial conflict Thursday. If we have anyone with a public speaking voice we would be happy to get rid of   … I mean train a back up for Amy!

We have 52 divers and 40+ dive families. I completely understand that some families have conflicts or other responsibilities. We do not have a volunteer “points system” there are only 5 meets and only 3 home meets. If you can’t help, it’s ok. We are not judging you. If you do have time great! I know, I knew nothing about dive when Mason started. Through volunteering, I was better able to understand the competition, the hurdles he was facing and how to relieve stress from the coaches and the dive reps, which made for a better experience for everyone. For now, if you can volunteer, please email me and I will   Put you I contact with the proper coordinator.

Thanks, Joel
