Happy Memorial Day Weekend
Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone will be able to get off a little early today and start a 3+ holiday weekend. Unfortunately, the weather does not look like it will be cooperation on Saturday and Sunday.
First I wanted to say hello to all the new team members who have joined this week. Just an FYI, the current team is at 27. We have commitments that would bring us up to 37 and we typically pick up more divers in the first week or two after the pool opens. Our biggest need at the moment is Junior Boys and Junior Girls (11-12). We will take any age but for meet purposes we are really on the lookout for this age group.
Before I move on to my topics for this week, please remember our first practice is June 1 at 6:30pm at Greenbriar Pool! The weather is predicted to be acceptable so let's hope it stays that way. If the pool closes or we judge it not in the best interest to hold practice at anytime this season. You will receive an email from this platform and a post will be on the swimtopia app.
This week topics are volunteering and T-Shirts.
Volunteering
For those of you new to dive. We require a referee, judges and tableworkers to run a meet. Each of these positions either require or would be helpful to have training. We belong to the NVSL Dive league that provides this training free of charge! A referee must have previously judged a dive meet and then attend referee training. Judges only have to attend a training. Tableworkers don't have to attend a training but it does help.
There will be trainings coming up on June 6 for Tableworkers; Judges clinics on June 6th, 9th and 15th; and Referee clinics on the 9th and 13th.
All of these trainings will be both live and on-line. Here is a link to the NVSL website explaining the details:

If you have time, I would appreciate it if you could attend a training. We need one referee for every meet (this position is limited to those who have previously judged dive meets). We need 2-3 judges each dive meet (No experience required other than taking the judges clinic. We all had to start somewhere.) We need 3-4 tableworkers each meet. (This is where the judges scores are tabulated and the divers score are calculated.) It helps to have addition or multiplication skills but we supply calculators if you don't. (Pro-Tip: If you want to keep track of how your diver is doing and get a close seat to the action. Tableworkers are the first to know who wins!)
Last but not least, at home meets we plan to have our own Dolphin Diner open. What form that will take is a moving target at the moment. As Covid restrictions continue to melt away, the Diner may get closer to what was in years past. We will get you more information on the Diner as we get closer to our first home meet!
There is no points system or requirement that you volunteer mainly because we never needed one. We have a great core group of parents and I am certain we have only added to their numbers. Don't be intimidated, ask me questions and ask other parents questions. If we all do a little, none of us will do too much!
T-Shirts (for non-divers)
So I am a bit bias but I believe our pool has the best t-shirts each year. We regularly get compliments on them at other pools. As you are aware, each diver gets a team t-shirt as part of the registration fees. In addition, we do sell the team t-shirts for both parents, siblings, etc. . . This also doubles as fundraiser for the team! The price for each t-shirt is $25. This year's t-shirt is another great one that will instantly give you a fresh t-shirt for your 4th of July and the upcoming Olympics. I have attached a picture. We will be making the order in the next week or two to ensure delivery prior to the first meet. Please consider supporting the team and your diver with a team t-shirt!
That's it for now. The weather is going to be non-pool weather Saturday and Sunday at Greenbriar pool but I plan to be their Monday. I will have some form of Dive Team t-shirt so feel free to talk to me. (Yes, I am fully vaxed.)
Happy Memorial Day!
Joel
